Millionaire Mentors for Business Owners

Last month we introduced business millionaire supporter, sales and marketing specialist, Richard Denny
.

This month we are introducing Millionaire Mentor John Quinn.

John has been there and done it, and what’s more, helped others do it, and wants to help more people do it again.

John Quinn has started businesses, taken ailing ones over, built up existing companies and sold companies.

As he says “I’ve worked for multi-national organisations and as a one man band. I have owned my businesses and built my wealth through the success of the companies I have been involved with.

Now, as a consultant, it is my chance to share my experience – and prevent others making the mistakes I have made.

I left Six Form College in Southampton after just a year, enjoying the money from the summer job.

The company had an excellent training programme. I was promoted to the job of a ‘sales representative’ complete with company car, but the company was not as ambitious as I was.

I moved to a smaller, aggressive company, AC Electrical Wholesale, and the directors backed me, at the age of 22, to open their first London branch.

The London operation was a success but an older person was promoted to become the company’s first group manager. I realised to ensure a business was run the way I felt it should be I would need to own it. At 25 I opened, with a partner, my own electrical wholesaler in Brentford.

Later I sold my half of the successful business to my partner and funded myself through Journalism College.

My first job as a reporter was back in Southampton.

Ambitious, as always, I went on to the Mail on Sunday where I collected the National Campaigning Journalist of the Year Award.

I did miss not running my own show and took the opportunity to buy the news agency in my hometown.

The Agency did not cost much, employing just three staff and heavily in debt after being sued successfully in a libel case.

Over the next few years I grew this sick business into the biggest news agency in the UK.

While owning the agency I was asked to become a non-executive and investor into a start up business that was going to bid for the regional radio licence for Sussex, Hampshire and Dorset.

I became heavily involved, Waive 105 was born. We grew the station and eventually sold it to a major radio group for £29 million.

I became chairman of the National Association of Press Agencies.

A start up, 2daymedia, asked me to become its non-executive chairman where a multi-million investment from a venture capitalist allowed us to move the company onto the next level.

I sold the news agency to the staff and later bought the UK rights to a marketing product that enabled estate agent’s signs to become interactive marketing tools.

I established this as a nationwide business before selling to an estate agency chain.

All of these experiences, along with the training I have undertaken, contributed to the strategic, marketing and public relations advice I bring as a full-time consultant.

This has been my most fulfilling time. Financially successful, I now work because I want to and really get a buzz of seeing talented people grow their businesses with the help I can offer.

All of the companies I have worked with tell me they are more successful since I became involved with them and I have never lost a client!

The experience to raise funds for companies, to see issues before they become major problems and to spot opportunities in their earliest stages, to share experience and be a sounding board to management are qualities my clients value greatly.”
